Oregon Calls

To grape or not to grape? To have the vineyard or keep selecting grape to buy that apparently won't grom in Ohio? Who knows? Everyone seems to avoid the basic though and Anton can't find anyone hwo has just tried a "decent" grape on local stock, now maybe he hasn't found them yet, but at the moment it is clear no-one tries to take a san giovese, a shiraz etc and just try it here. Is it a case of just knowing it won't work so you don't try? But someone must have tried? Surely? Just as someone must be making wine without naturally reaching for cultured yeasts and chemical aditions and coloring? Right? Or, equally, won't that work? But we know it does.
Anyway, another Christmas comes and go and another birthday (or two, or three), and Oregon calls again by way of "At Home in the Vineyard: Cultivating a Winery, an Industry, and a Life" as a birthday gift to me from family in Portland, Oregon. As I say, Oregon calls again....
