2006's Wine

I don't know if I mentioned what wines this year. Well, here they are.
SanGiovese
Pinot Noir
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Franc
Merlot
Shiraz/Syrah - whatever.
And speaking of wine, we're intrinsically linked to weddings now and i recall my sister's wedding (that's her on left) in Italy and that of others that i've attended there. Wine was always a big part of it, from the 'toll" the couple pays in order to leave the Village to the main event of the day, Eating. And it is a day's event which leads to dancing into the night.
And I've been thinking about the wine buying habits in that Valley, Lunigiana, the Northern end of Tuscany on the border of the Emilia-Romagna, and you know, even theough they may not make it themselves as much as they used too (too much hard work) they are real fussy about where they get it. I don't mean which store, as there's nothing like the WalMart or Kroger there, and that's a good thing, but they will seek out the Nogoziant or the winery itself to ensure they get good wine. And they'll buy it in 14gallon demijons, not by the bottle. Most still have the old cantinas below the house for storage. I suppose the city folk will buy bottles.
And barter's still alive, so if you can offer a room to your wine maker for hunting season, or provide a good chingiale (chin-gy-ah-leh) (wild boar) stew, you may get the wine for free or for substantially less. In short, they get close to their wine supply as it's important as it's drunk daily and offered to guests and friends who will just come by and visit without notice, so it better not embarass you.
I really want to get there with our winery and our customers. I want them to be proud of the choice they made with our wine and I want to keep in contact with them. I want them to be comfortable with wine and our wine in particular. We're still small enough we can do a lot for them. I want them to feel a connection to what we do and why. Beyond (purchase of ) the Bottle.
